Matt - Owner, DJ
Hi! My name is Matt, owner of Style Points DJs. I’m a wedding DJ and dance music producer based in Connecticut.
I’m available for events in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and parts of New Jersey.
My DJ journey began in 2016 with the help of my close friend Jerry. We became obsessed with the craft, having bonded over our shared love for music from Avicii, Zedd, and Martin Garrix.
We studied other acts, attended countless club nights, concerts and festivals, and honed our skills any chance we could. I’ve been fortunate enough to go full-time as a DJ, and have been loving it ever since.
I consider myself to be different than other wedding DJs in my market. I choose to forego the tacky “entertainer personality” and instead talk directly and personably with my crowds, as if I was talking to a friend. I also avoid cheesy games and played out wedding classics that make the crowd groan.
My main priority as your DJ is individuality. I’ve been to way too many weddings where I hear the same songs. YMCA and We Are Family are forever drilled into my brain’s subconscious. This is why many of my clients tell me that my set was a breath of fresh air for them.
I care about making unique dance sets that cater to your crowd’s needs. I choose to utilize my live mixing skills along with many backgrounds, styles, and genres to ensure that there’s tasteful variety. Any wedding I do may include selections of house, hip-hop, pop, oldies, R&B, and whatever else will get the crowd moving!
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, how do you engage everybody? Sure, I like to hear Blink-182, but my 92-year-old grandmother doesn’t!
Mixing many genres and styles generally works for most crowds. I like to open the dance floor with some familiar throwbacks that everybody enjoys. From there, I can adjust course to whichever direction we agree on. You’d be surprised how many grandparents will be two-stepping to Lil Jon an hour into the dance set.
I like to keep it interesting, jumping around every few songs to a new genre or time era. This way, everybody feels like they heard something that they enjoyed, and nobody is sick of hearing the same style of music for the whole night.
I’m a competent MC, but I’m not the kind of guy to heckle people on the microphone who aren’t dancing. I find that off-putting. Instead, I welcome everybody simply by playing high quality music, mixed well, and with no downtime or pause.
You may hear me mention that I like to take my crowds on a “musical journey”. This means that I normally ramp up the energy throughout the night, starting with a chill, classy cocktail hour set, blended into feel-good tunes for dinner, so that once the dance floor opens, people are ready to go.
I pride myself on being able to adjust my style dynamically, whether you’re looking for an off-the-wall party, or just a good time grooving with your friends and family.
